Think
Deeply
“For
time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who
look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.” John F.
Kennedy. This meaningful message matches with Stephen’s short story, “Learn and
Earn.” The story talks about two different kinds of people, and the advantages
and disadvantages of being like one of them. Stephen delivers to the readers
the idea that we have to think deeply to be creative and aspire more to be more
successful.
“Chuan
and Jing” work together in same company, yet despite the fact that both of them
work hard, only Jing gets promoted by the boss. Jing becomes a sales executive,
but his friend Chuan does not progress in his career; most certainly because of
his neglectfulness. “One day Chuan can not take it anymore and tenders his
resignation to the boss.” This shows us that Chuan does not even think to
improve himself. He only keeps thinking in bad way, and he gives up.
While
Chuan thinks he deserves more because he works hard, he does not consider which
has prevented him from getting the promotion. “The boss did not value hard
working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.” This is what keeps
Chuan backward. Chuan always does what the boss asks him to do without any
creativity, which has limited him and put him in small box.
Likewise,
if we want to improve and reach higher positions, we have to think more before
we embark. We have to be meticulous to be successful. For example, the boss
decides to give Chuan a lesson in order to make him understand what has kept him
from progressing. The boss asks Chuan and Jing to do the same task: “Go and
find someone selling watermelon in the market.”
However, both of their answers are different. Chuan is limited in his
answer; he does only what the boss asks him to do. On the other hand, Jing is
creative, and he thinks more deeply. Jing brings more information for the boss
than the boss has asked him for. Indeed, Jing always makes his boss surprised because
he is creative and he goes beyond expectations. Chuan realizes after this
mission that he has to change himself and think more in order to have a shiny
future.
The
short story, "Learn and Earn," provides us with a useful and amazing
theme. The more we think deeply, the more we guarantee an awesome future to
ourselves. To be successful necessitates several things, but the most important
thing is to be observant. We have to be incisive because the life is not easy.
