Summary
Pitts
JR. Leonard writes in the article, “Beauty Is Not Just Smaller Life,” how the
media affects girls, and that there are a lot of girls who care to follow the
standards of weight. However, she argues that people should be satisfied with themselves.
The author believes that our realization of beauty has become different because
of the media. The article shows us how much the girls around the world suffer
from their diet in order lose weight. Leonard further mentions the feminist
argument, where men should stop objectifying girls, but the author disagrees, saying
that demand is not practical. Instead, Leonard
provides two solutions to the audience. First, the people who control on the
media should think more about this issue. Second, the people who care about
these measures should focus on our girls in our family who are closest to us.
Response
In
sum, the author shows us a picture in this article how most women and girls are
affected by the media. I totally agree with author that nowadays most of us,
especially girls are influenced by the media. They do not think if these
standards are appropriate for them or not. Also, I agree with the author that
she would like the people who control media to be more thoughtful about all
beauty standards including women and girls of all body types. I afraid that most
of negative results of following these standards happen to our family girls, so
I cannot agree more that the media have to be more circumspect and aware to
protect women and girls lives. I am really surprised how the media can be
oblivious that much toward the women's health. I agree with Pitts that
the standards of beauty have changed nowadays. I really appreciated that the author points out that all these changes happen because
of media, and the media become more important in our lives. A complete
picture emerges, and I would recommend this article to others for that
reason.
